Students from across the Palmetto State gathered in Columbia on September 13th for the S.C. Department of Education’s first Youth Anti-Bullying Summit. This year’s theme is “Bullying…NOT in My School!” Schools were invited to bring five students to serve as student ambassadors for this day-long seminar at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center. Students learned valuable information along with prospective ways to create an action plan to help reduce bullying in their school. Students from C.E. Murray High School; Hemingway Elementary, Middle and High schools, Kingstree Middle Magnet and High schools, and Kenneth Gardner Elementary represented WCSD. Randy McFadden, a fifth grader from Kenneth Gardner Elementary, commented about the experience, “I really enjoyed the day. We learned about bullying signs to look for and ways to stop bullying before it starts. Bullying is not a good thing.”
