• 2020-2021 Principal's Message

    Mr. James Carraway

Dear Parents, Grandparents, Guardians, and Community Supporters:

It is with enthusiasm and great pleasure that I look forward to the upcoming 2020-2021 school year. I would like to extend a hearty welcome to the Kingstree Middle Magnet School of the Arts family. I hope you’re having a wonderful summer and that it has been filled with great moments and memories. We look forward to you and your family joining us as we continue to "Set the Course for Success". I’m very excited about this next chapter we are about to write. The coming school year will provide important opportunities for the academic and social development of our students. We will continue to enhance our culture of continuous improvement. Middle school is a time of transition for many students. We will seek opportunities that allow students to learn more about their feelings and those of others; how to set goals and plan for the long and short term; how to work in groups as team players and as leaders; and how to be thoughtful problem solvers and decision makers. While we improve the ways we collaborate, make decisions, and solve problems together, we will be putting a strong focus on continuing to build a village with our students, and their parents.

We have a caring and committed staff who understand the importance of working with parents to ensure all students experience success. We anticipate a productive partnership with you to ensure our children will achieve their highest potential. We recognize that in order to be successful in school, our children need support from the home, school, and community. Having a strong partnership with you will make a great difference in your child’s education. Our partnership with the families of our students as well as other community members and organizations is a key part of our success. We should have consistent communication between home and school for families to learn about what is happening at school and provide feedback to help us improve. Please be involved. Like all schools, we have opportunities for improvement, and we aspire to unite with you in our efforts.

Please consider joining our school's PTO, volunteer program, and attend parenting workshops. Additionally, you will receive a copy of the Williamsburg County School District Student Handbook. Please review this with your child. If you have any questions about the rules and expectations, please feel free to contact me or discuss them with your child’s teacher. It is very important that you and your child are fully informed regarding standards related to appropriate behavior for a safe school year.

I genuinely care about all children and their families, which motivates me to try my best to provide a quality experience for each student every day. Ensuring a safe, positive learning environment is a top priority for me. Please feel free to contact me with questions, comments, or concerns. It will take all of us working together to assist our children in being successful. I thank you in advance for supporting our school.
